Our club offers the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course, better known as the Pistol Permit Class. This course is required to obtain a Connecticut permit to carry pistols and revolvers.
This course is open to the public.

The primary goals of this course are knowledge, safety and marksmanship. The course is presented in a manner to give basic understanding of handgun types, how they work and their basic components. Attention is also given to ammunition, its components and how it functions. Firearm handling describing sight picture, grip and firearm care are also covered. An NRA handbook including everything that is covered in the course is included along with other informational material.

Our instructors are NRA certified. The NRA course is accepted by the State of Connecticut. At the successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate from the NRA which you may use to obtain your State Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course
Pistol Permit Class

This is the Pistol Permit Class which is required to obtain a Connecticut State Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers.

The following Pistol Permit Class are scheduled:
Sunday, May 19th at 9:00am
Sunday, June 9th at 9:00am

This class is open to the public.

The class is held at our Club:
9 Old South Avenue, Stratford
It is a one story block building with no signage, on the corner of Woodend Rd.

Our one day Pistol Permit Class consists of:

  1. A morning classroom style presentation on gun parts and operation, ammunition, cleaning, storage, loading and unloading, shooting fundamentals and range safety, followed by an NRA test on the presented material.

  2. "Live Fire” training where you will fire a minimum of 30 rounds from a revolver and/or semi-automatic pistol, under safe one-to-one teacher to student supervision from a highly experienced and friendly instructor. Handguns along with their corresponding ammunition are provided for student use.

After successfully completing the course you will receive an official NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate recognized by the state of Connecticut, and most other states, allowing you to apply for your permit to carry pistols and revolvers.

All necessary classroom materials, firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection and other needed range equipment will be provided for you as needed.

The fee for the Pistol Permit Class is $130 and is payable the morning of the class. Payment is accepted by cash, check or money order. (Sorry, no credit cards)

Our class is held from 9:00am to approximately 4:00pm depending on the number of students. Lunch will be provided.

Note: Class reservations must be in by the Tuesday before the day of the class.
BRC reserves the right to cancel the class on the Friday before the class.
