We are often asked various questions about how to become a member of Bridgeport Rifle Club (BRC) and about the steps to become a member. Below is a list of frequently asked questions and answers.
Q: I would like to be considered for membership but cannot find a sponsor. How do I get a sponsor?
A: A sponsor has to be a current senior member of the club in good standing. If you do not know a senior member you will be assigned a Mentor who will guide you through the application process and could either be your sponsor or possibly assign you a sponsor.
Q: What is the purpose of the background check?
A: All new members are required to submit to and pass a background check. This process allows us to ensure that all members are law abiding citizens with no history of felonies or firearms related offenses.
Q: What is the purpose of the Safety and Orientation Class?
A: The Safety and Orientation Class is to ensure that new members will have current knowledge of safety practices, are familiar with the House and Range Rules specific to BRC, and are oriented to the BRC facilities so new members are aware of the appropriate conduct expected of them as members of BRC.
Q: What is the purpose of the safety shoots?
A: The purpose of the safety shoots is to ensure that all of our members handle firearms, handguns in particular, in a safe way. It is also to ensure that all of our members are familiar with regular range commands and conduct themselves in a respectable manner.

Q: Are handguns available for rent?
A: We do not offer handguns for rental. All members and prospective members must bring their own firearms for participation in our leagues and events.
Q: What firearms are allowed to be fired at the range?
A: Any center fire or rim fire handgun may used provided the ammunition does not exceed the velocity of normal, commercially available loadings (no magnum, +P or armor piercing ammunition allowed). In addition only rifles shooting .22 caliber long rifle ammo may be used.
Q: What distance do you allow shooting at?
A: The Bridgeport Rifle Club is a 50 ft. indoor range with a minimum shooting distance of 25 ft. from the firing line.
Q: Are you affiliated with Bridgeport Shooting Range?
A: No, we are not.
